Hazard labels of Class 9 identify substances and articles that pose a risk during transport but cannot be assigned to any of the specific dangerous goods classes 1–8. This class serves as a catch‑all category for heterogeneous hazardous materials that still present significant risks to health, the environment and safety.
ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE
Substances that are dangerous to the environment – especially to aquatic organisms – are internationally referred to as ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE.
Many of these substances cannot be classified more precisely, for example because they consist of various mixtures, waste materials, or unspecific chemical compounds.

The Class 9 category is diverse and includes substances that can harm health when inhaled as fine dust, can form dioxins in case of fire, develop flammable vapors, can cause explosions or intense heat release, can endanger the environment—especially bodies of water, or are transported at elevated temperatures.
